This painting is of my niece Claire and was actually done as a demonstration for one of my portrait workshops. The workshop was a one day only event, so my brush really had to fly to allow painting time for the students as well. Most of this portrait was completed in about 3 hours of classroom painting time with a few minor touch ups done at home.

The time constraints resulted in a very loose, painterly portrait with no fussy details. It is one of my favourite watercolour portraits to date and is a good example of the typical head and shoulders pose. The much looser style results in a totally different mood than some of my more tightly rendered formal portraits.
