| Photo
Shoot Having established the basic idea for the portrait we will meet for the photo shoot of the subject(s). This may take up to several hours as we view the images on a laptop computer and develop the final composition for the painting. In the case of complex arrangements, this may take several meetings. Upon approval of the photo reference and compositional plan a deposit of 50% of the commission is payed. |
| Painting Based on our consultations I will then begin painting the portrait . My goal will be to produce a strong work of art that stands on it's own while capuring the essence of the subject in a manner pleasing to you. |
| Viewing Once the painting is complete we will meet so you can view the portrait. If you are totally satisfied, the remainder of the commission is paid and you take possession of the painting. Framing may also be discussed at this time. In many cases there are minor alterations suggested by the client and these are included in the commission price. After any alterations are made, the painting is viewed again and if everyone is happy the transaction is concluded. |
| Refusal In the unlikely event that that the client is unhappy with the painting they have the right of refusal. In this case the deposit is forfeit to me and I keep possession of the painting. This has only happened twice in ten years and in both cases was due to ambiguity that occurred during a rushed consultation phase. I have instituted the 50% deposit policy to ensure that the client is totally invested in the process and will take whatever time is required to ensure a successful consultation. |
| PRICE SCHEDULE Pricing begins at $600 for a 12" by 16" head and shoulders in either watercolours or oils. The cost increases proportionally for each additional figure, so that a life size head and shoulders of three subjects would be $1800. Showing of the hands, full figures, complex poses and backgrounds would also increase the cost as this greatly increases the time required to complete the painting. |
