This is a painting of my son Scott that was done as a demonstration for an oil portrait class. the painting was completed over four classroom sessions with me painting about 1 1/2 hours for each class. It is painted from a photograph and is a good example of a typical head and shoulders pose. I have included the reference photo so that you can compare the finished painting to the actual photo. This is what you could expect from the basic $600 head and shoulders portrait package.
I love this painting ... to me it is the perfect combination of controlled detail in the face and bravura brush strokes in the vest and hair... with a nice soft non-competing background.
*notice the subtle positive / negative changes around the head.( from light against dark - to dark against light and back again )
